Environmental Preferences and Technological Choices: Is Market Competition Clean or Dirty?

چکیده
We investigate the effects of consumers’ environmental concerns and market competition on firms’ decisions to innovate in “clean” technologies. Agents care about their consumption footprint; firms pursue greener products soften price competition. Acting as complements, these forces determine R&D, pollution, welfare. test theory using panel data patents by 7,060 automobile sector 25 countries, willingness pay, As predicted, exposure prosocial attitudes fosters clean innovation, all more so where is strong. Superconductivity in MgB2: clean or dirty?
A large number of experimental facts and theoretical arguments favor a two-gap model for superconductivity in MgB2. However, this model predicts strong suppression of the critical temperature by interband impurity scattering and, presumably, a strong correlation between the critical temperature and the residual resistivity. No such correlation has been observed. We argue that this fact can be u...
متن کاملLabor Market Competition and Individual Preferences over Immigration Policy
This paper uses three years of individual-level data to analyze the determinants of individual preferences over immigration policy in the United States. We have two main empirical results. First, less-skilled workers are signi cantly more likely to prefer limiting immigrant in ows into the United States. Our nding suggests that, over the time horizons that are relevant to individuals when e...
متن کاملClean data with dirty surfaces in electrokinetics
The field of electrokinetics, or electrically driven motion of particles and fluids, recently celebrated its 200th birthday [1, 2] and yet it remains a frontier of theoretical physics. Stringent tests of the standard model used by workers in this field are now possible in microfluidic devices using alternating-current [3] or induced-charge electro-osmotic (ICEO) flows [4]. Unlike classical elec...
متن کاملRationalization and Cognitive Dissonance: Do Choices Affect or Reflect Preferences?
Cognitive dissonance is one of the most influential theories in social psychology, and its oldest experiential realization is choice-induced dissonance. Since 1956, dissonance theorists have claimed that people rationalize past choices by devaluing rejected alternatives and upgrading chosen ones, an effect known as the spreading of preferences. Here, I show that every study which has tested thi...
